Adnan Januzaj has returned to Manchester United after his season-long loan at Dortmund was cut short.
Januzaj has not had enough playing time at Dortmund, with the forward playing just 160 minutes since joining the club in August.
And with United lacking attacking options, Van Gaal has welcomed the forward back.
On Thursday, the club tweeted: “[Manchester United] confirms Adnan Januzaj will rejoin the squad, after Borussia Dortmund agreed to cancel his loan deal.”
At the end of November, Van Gaal revealed that he had warned Januzaj about the risks involved with a move to Dortmund.
“I said in advance that’s a big risk, because you have to compete with other players of a higher level and that’s not so easy,” said the Dutchman.
“It’s the same as at Manchester United. He has to compete with higher-level players. I want him to play all the matches, and that’s why I wanted to play him in the Premier League, but he chose Borussia Dortmund.”
